How to start a Vegetable Garden and Grow Organic Food

Location

Choose your Vegetables

Choose your Vegetables

Choosing your location and size is important.   Is it in full sun or shade?  Will your garden be fenced in? Direct in Soil or in Raised Beds?   Will you grow in Pots? Grow Bags?

Choose your Vegetables

Choose your Vegetables

Choose your Vegetables

In order to grow vegetables, you will need to decide if you will use seed or buy organic plants at a nearby garden center. Spacing is critically important.  Spacing between rows with the proper amount spacing will give your vegetables room to grow.

Companion Gardening

Choose your Vegetables

Companion Gardening

A healthy garden is key for an abundant garden.  Plant friends or plant enemies?  Some vegetables/fruits can NOT be grown next to one another.  In fact, if this is not done correctly some plants will rob the nutrients from the soil for the crop planted next to it. It can even help with better flavor.

Crop Rotation

Natural Methods

Companion Gardening

Due to the needs of the soil, nutrients, pH balance and more, crops need to be rotated every season.  I will publish a crop rotation guide on my blog.

Protecting your food garden from birds and other wildlife is important if you want something to harvest.  I love all types of wildlife in my yard, but not in my garden.  Visit my blog for detailed tips on how to accomplish this without any insecticides or pesticides.
